  50. This chapter provides information on the hidden menu items 
  51. available in NCSA ImageTool.

  54. Button and Text Field Menus
  55.  
  56. Control buttons and text fields often have associated menus. Some 
  57. menus simply provide descriptive text for the buttons. Others 
  58. provide more flexibility or additional functionality. 
  59.

  61. Stack Buttons
  62. When you switch to stack mode, some buttons appear in the control 
  63. panel. These buttons all have associated menus. The menu for the 
  64. Flush button provides no additional functionality. This menu's 
  65. sole element duplicates the effect of clicking the button. Selecting 
  66. Flush storage purges the contents of the entire stack.

  68. The Store, Show, and Delete button menus provide no operations in 
  69. addition to those performed by the buttons themselves, but they do 
  70. add a degree of flexibility. The entries in these menus consist of 
  71. the numbers from 1 to 10. Selecting a number causes the associated 
  72. operation to be performed on the stack entry indexed by the number 
  73. selected from the menu rather than the one indicated by the number 
  74. beside the control. For example, select the entry titled 3 from the 
  75. Store button's menu to store the currently selected image in the 
  76. third stack entry.

  79. Animate Buttons
  80. The menus for these buttons provide no additional function, nor do 
  81. they provide additional flexibility. They simply provide an 
  82. alternative method of initiating the same action. Menus of this 
  83. type are also informative. The text of the menu item provides more 
  84. information about the operation than may be discernible from the 
  85. appearance of the button. For example, the + button has a menu with 
  86. only one item, Increase speed. This is obviously more descriptive 
  87. than the addition symbol.

  90. Text Fields and Other Control Window Menus
  91.  
  92. Each text field in the control panel has an associated menu. These 
  93. menus provide a variety of functions in most cases, and there are 
  94. control key equivalents that may be used instead.

  97. Directory Text Field Menu
  98. The field labeled Directory has a menu (Figure 4.1) associated 
  99. with it that contains two options. The Change directory option 
  100. causes the current directory to be changed to the directory you name 
  101. in the text field. Press CTRL-C at the end of the text field to perform 
  102. the same function. Pressing CTRL-N gets the default directory 
  103. name.

  110. NOTE: The pathname of the current directory is always displayed 
  111. in the black border (title bar) on the top of the NCSA ImageTool 
  112. frame.

  115. Image Text Field Menu
  116. The Image Text Field menu (Figure 4.2) has more elements. If you 
  117. select Load image from file, or press CTRL-L at the end of the text 
  118. field, the named file is loaded. If you haven't specified a complete 
  119. pathname for the file, NCSA ImageTool looks for it in the current 
  120. directory. If you have not changed the current directory since 
  121. changing the text in the directory field, the directory named is not 
  122. the same directory that is searched.

  124. Animate from files provides animation from raster file matching 
  125. the file specification in the Image text field. Clear canvas, and 
  126. Scale image file  enable you to clear the canvas and scale an 
  127. image, respectively. To initiate these operations you can also press 
  128. CTRL-A, CTRL-C, and CTRL-S, respectively, at the end of the text 
  129. field.

  137. Loading? Menu
  138. The Loading? menu (Figure 4.3) lists options from which you must 
  139. indicate the type of file you are loading. No key stroke equivalents 
  140. exist for these options, you simply select the file type with the mouse 
  141. cursor. Descriptions of the types of files NCSA ImageTool supports, 
  142. as well as a discussion on HDF files, are provided in Chapter 2, 
  143. "Formatting Your Data Files."

  149. Palette Text Field Menu
  150. The field labeled Palette also has several items in its menu. The 
  151. Load palette from file option loads a color palette from the palette 
  152. file. Refer to the File Formats section in Chapter 2 for details on the 
  153. file format used. Restore previous palette returns the palette to its 
  154. unmodified state. Show palette displays a color strip at the current 
  155. origin point on the canvas. You can also press the alternative 
  156. CTRL key codes for these operations:  CTRL-L, CTRL-R, and 
  157. CTRL-S. The menus for Xdim and Ydim fields simply position the 
  158. cursor at the end of these text fields and select the associated text.

  161. SDS Scaling Menu
  162. The SDS Scaling Menu (Figure 4.4) contains options for using a 
  163. popup dialog window, as well as specifications for linear or 
  164. logarithmic scaling of a scientific dataset image file. No 
  165. keystroke equivalents exist for this menu's options. You'll only be 
  166. using this menu if you're loading a SDS.
